The 6th annual Christmas For Kids fundraiser, which took place throughout December 2024, culminated on Christmas Day with the drawing of six lucky winners who claimed prizes generously donated by participating sponsors. This year, the event achieved a significant milestone, raising a record-breaking $7,478—more than any previous year! Since it’s inception in 2019, the fundraiser has supported Unalaska’s Crisis Center, Unalaskan’s Against Sexual Assault & Family Violence (USAFV). In it’s first year, OptimERA was the sole participating company, and raised $3,722 which kickstarted this important initiative. Over the years, the fundraiser has grown with the addition of more than 10 corporate sponsors, local artists, and businesses, making a greater impact on the community.
The funds raised each year go toward purchasing food boxes, essential items, and holiday gifts for families in need, both in Unalaska and on the nearby island of Akutan. As the demand for assistance has increased, USAFV has worked diligently to ensure that no family is left without support throughout the year and during the holidays. Through the support of sponsors, the hard work of staff members, and the generosity of our community members, the Christmas For Kids program continues to bring joy and comfort to those facing challenging times. USAFV plays a vital role in providing safety, advocacy, and support to survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, and other forms of abuse, and the Christmas For Kids fundraiser is an important extension of their year-round mission to foster a culture of care, respect, and healing.
This year’s fundraiser was made possible by the overwhelming support of our sponsors and community members. This year’s sponsors included 10 amazing companies, Alaska Airlines, Offshore Systems Inc., Trident Seafoods, Salmon Sisters, Qawax, Aleutian Expeditors, Unisea Inc., Kloosterboer, TBC Radio, KUCB, and Impish Limpet. Special thanks also goes out to USAFV staff members Jocelyn Hernandez, Andrea Treiber, and Rose Marie Sevilla, whose dedication ensured that every donation and gift was managed with care. A heartfelt thank you to USAFV Director Lynn Crane, as well as the many volunteers and supporters who made this initiative possible. The Christmas For Kids program is a true testament to the generosity of the Unalaska community, bringing hope, joy, and support to families in need during the holiday season.
